Board Details

The responsibilities of the Police and Fire Commissioners are as follows:

  • To recruit, select, and appoint qualified candidates to fill vacancies for the original appointment of a Police Officer.
  • To determine testing and selection processes that allow qualified employees to participate in the promotional process for the positions of Sergeant and Lieutenant in the Police Department.
  • To conduct disciplinary hearings or appeals of disciplinary action in the Police Department.

The Police and Fire Commission of the Village of Rantoul derives its authority from the Illinois Municipal Code, Illinois Compiled Statutes. and from Village of Rantoul Ordinances. To view the current rules and regulations click here.


Public notice is hereby given to all persons concerned that on the 19th day of October, 2022, the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the Village of Rantoul, Illinois, voted to amend its Rules and Regulations. Printed copies of the Rules and Regulations, as amended, may be obtained from the Rantoul Police Department, 109 East Grove Avenue, Rantoul, Illinois. The rules shall be operable as of October 29, 2022, or 10 days from the date of publication of this notice, whichever date is later.
